Silence is golden... but too much silence lead you to nowhere. Unless you are planning to go nowhere, then you should not restrain yourself from saying what needs to be said. The extent of 'need' may vary though... I do agree that saying too many things, especially the unnecessary ones, just puts you into a bind.
